SCOPE OF HYPNOSIS PRACTICE
Some issues require written referral of a qualified medical practitioner.
As a hypnotist my role is help you resolve everyday problems using hypnosis. I am not a medical doctor or mental health practitioner. I do not diagnose, prescribe, treat, cure, or heal any physical, mental, or emotional illness. The services I render are not a form of health care, psychotherapy, or counseling. The physical and mental well-being of each client is my primary consideration. I recommend that you seek medical and/or professional help when appropriate. Hypnosis is not a substitute for medical treatments or medications. I will withhold non-referred hypnotic services if a client’s behavior, appearance or statements would lead a reasonable person to believe that the client should be evaluated by a licensed health care professional, and will provide services to such clients only after evaluation and with the approval of the licensed health care professional. If you need a diagnosis or any other type of treatment from a different practitioner, I will assist in a coordinated transfer of services to another practitioner.
MINI-F.A.Q.
VIRTUAL HYPNOSIS @ MIND HARMONY
Experience the same depth of focus and change from the comfort of your own space.
At Mind Harmony, virtual hypnosis sessions are designed to feel just as intentional, effective, and personalized as in-person work—without the commute or the waiting room. Hypnosis relies on your ability to focus, imagine, and respond to suggestions, not on physical proximity. That makes it a natural fit for secure online video sessions. Together, we create a calm, private environment where your nervous system can settle and your mind can do the work of change.
You’ll work directly with Nathan McMillen, Certified Consulting Hypnotist (National Guild of Hypnotists), who adapts traditional NGH standards for a modern, virtual setting.
Is online hypnosis really as effective as in-person?
For many people and many goals, yes. Hypnosis is about focused attention and guided imagination, both of which work extremely well over secure video. In fact, many clients find they relax more deeply at home because they’re in a familiar, safe environment. The structure, suggestions, and techniques I use are the same; the main difference is that your comfortable chair or couch replaces my office.
What kinds of issues can we address in a virtual hypnosis session?
Virtual hypnosis works well for many goals, including:
- Stress and nervous system regulation
- Sleep support and bedtime routines
- Confidence and performance
- Habits and behavior change
- Emotional processing and resilience
Hypnosis is not a replacement for medical or mental health treatment. If you’re under the care of a physician, therapist, or other licensed provider, hypnosis can often be a complement to that care. If something falls outside my scope, I’ll let you know and may suggest you talk with an appropriate professional.
How is this different from listening to a hypnosis recording on an app?
Pre-recorded audios can be helpful, but they are one-way and generic. In a live virtual session:
- I tailor the suggestions to your language, history, and goals.
- I respond to your body language and feedback in real time.
- We adjust the pace, imagery, and approach based on what you’re actually experiencing.
- We debrief afterward so you leave with next steps you can use between sessions.
Think of apps as background support; live sessions are targeted, personalized change-work.
Is virtual hypnosis safe? Will I lose control?
You remain in control throughout the session, just as you would in person. You can hear me, talk to me, and choose whether to follow any suggestion. If you needed to, you could open your eyes, move, or end the session at any time.
We also:
- Confirm your location and emergency contact at the start of each session.
- Use a clear plan for what happens if technology glitches or we get disconnected.
- Make sure you’re in a private, safe space where you won’t be interrupted.
Hypnosis is a collaborative process, not mind control.
What if the internet drops while I’m in hypnosis?
We plan for that ahead of time. Here’s the protocol we use:
- If the connection drops, your mind and body simply do one of two things:
- Drift into natural, comfortable rest and then emerge on your own, or
- Gently reorient and open your eyes on your own.
- I’ll attempt to reconnect for several minutes. If that doesn’t work, I’ll follow up by text, phone, or email.
- You’ll have simple, clear instructions to follow so you’re never left wondering what to do.
Your unconscious mind already knows how to return you to a normal, emerged state safely.
I’m skeptical. Isn’t hypnosis too “woo-woo” to do online?
Understandable. Here’s how I frame it:
- Hypnosis is guided, focused attention—similar to getting absorbed in a good book or movie.
- Virtual hypnosis is simply using technology to facilitate that focus, not to “zap” your brain.
- My work is grounded in NGH standards, clear ethics, and respect for your beliefs and values.
- You always have the right to ask questions, to slow down, or to say “no” to any suggestion.
You don’t have to “believe in hypnosis” for it to work; you just need enough curiosity to show up, follow the process, and notice what changes.
